Portfolio > Revolution Works

This series is based on a poem that I wrote in 1991:
*"If red is the color of revolution
then under these lines lies the dream
of a failed revolution
which haunts us like an old romance or
the time bomb that we hid when
we went on vacation in 1971.
Now we hunt for it in closets and drawers
wondering if we put it with that
bundle of bellbottoms
we gave away in 1979."*
The designs for my "bombs" are painted over a silkscreened image of student revolutionaries from the 1970's. There were some bombings during that period, mostly from the WeatherUnderground but they seemed to be aimed more at institutions than people. They would blow up mail boxes or the bathrooms of government buildings and phone in a warning ahead of time or do it at such a time when people were not around. The Weather Underground killed themselves in making their bombs more often than killing other people. The other bombers from the late 20th century, who were more effective were the white supremacists during the Civil Rights struggle, who blew up black churches and the "Pro Life" adherents , who blew up abortion clinics. The designs that I used are from the Anarchist Cookbook which was available in bookstores in the 70's and 80's. I have always thought that the government put out that book with designs to kill would be bomb makers.
I would advise everyone to not make bombs or use these designs. The concept of bombing and killing to win people for your cause is counterproductive and evil. The designs are probably flawed and will kill you.
